New paper is published at Neoplasia Journal
Excited to share that our new paper, “Integrated collagen architecture and composition improve risk stratification in triple-negative breast cancer,” has just been published in Neoplasia! 🎉
This work is especially meaningful to me because it represents a wonderful collaboration with Mihriban Karaayvaz and brings together complementary expertise across cancer biology, computational imaging, pathology, and quantitative science at Cleveland Clinic Research Clinic and the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center.
In this study, we asked whether the extracellular matrix contains prognostic information that we are currently missing in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). By computationally analyzing both collagen architecture and collagen composition in patient tumor samples, we found that:
• Collagen architectural states stratify recurrence risk
• A higher COL3 ratio is associated with improved overall survival
• Integrating collagen architecture and composition reveals clinically meaningful risk groups that are not readily captured by tumor stage alone
I am particularly excited about the broader implication: routine pathology specimens contain rich, quantitative information about the tumor microenvironment that computational approaches can potentially transform into clinically useful biomarkers.
